This year, one of my senior girls asked for a location with tons of flowers. That request led us to a brand new spot I’m thrilled to offer: Hickory Ridge Trails in Amherst, MA.
What makes this place special isn’t just the wildflowers (though they’re incredible). It’s the story behind the land and how it’s becoming one of the most beautiful portrait locations in Western Massachusetts.
Hickory Ridge Trails is more than just a pretty backdrop, it’s a piece of Amherst history. The land was once the Hickory Ridge Golf Course, a semi‑private 18‑hole course built in 1973.
In 2022, the Town of Amherst purchased the 150‑acre property, transforming it from a traditional golf course into a space focused on conservation, recreation, and ecological restoration.
Today, the former fairways and cart paths have become accessible walking trails, open meadows, and protected habitats. Did I mention there were tons of wildflowers?! The Fort River winds through nearly two miles of the land, and ongoing restoration efforts continue to enhance the natural beauty of the space.
So if you're looking for a new and unique spot for your senior portraits, ask me about Hickory Ridge. The best part? You can have dinner at Mission Cantina on your way home!
